Demetri Martin interview worth a listen

Comedian up-and-comer Demetri Martin gave an interview with Fresh Air’s Terry Gross, which I thought was noteworthy from the perspective of the creative process.

The first thing I noticed was the artist-at-work glimpse we get as listeners:  Martin talks about the way he plays with ideas like puzzles, finding the humor in them.  He also describes keeping unfinished ideas filed away in manilla folders and coming back to them when he’s “blocked.”

The second thing worth noticing was Martin’s explanation of how he became a comedian.  Finding himself disinterested as an NYU law school, but with no other vision of himself other than as a corporate lawyer, Martin’s description of his process for self-discovery sounds refreshingly simple:

Forget about money, status, or what anybody thinks about me.  When I wake up in the morning, what activities would I look forward to doing? … How do I get money for that?
